Occupational Therapy

Our school is committed to advancing occupational therapy services by staying abreast of current research, incorporating evidence-based practices, and leveraging technology to enhance therapy delivery and outcomes. We will continue to collaborate closely with students, families, and educators to ensure that our occupational therapy program meets the evolving needs of our special kids and supports their overall success and well-being.

Occupational therapy at our school plays a crucial role in supporting the holistic development and independence of our students with diverse needs. Our occupational therapy program focuses on helping students develop the skills they need to participate meaningfully in daily activities, both within the school environment and in their broader lives. Occupational therapists work collaboratively with students, teachers, and parents to address a wide range of challenges related to sensory processing, fine and gross motor skills, self-care, and social participation.

WHAT DOES WE OFFER TO YOUR CHILD?

Each student undergoes a comprehensive occupational therapy assessment to identify their strengths, challenges, and specific areas of need. Based on this assessment, individualized goals are set in collaboration with the student, their parents, and the multidisciplinary team.

Fine motor skill development: Activities to improve hand strength, dexterity, and coordination, such as handwriting practice, cutting, and manipulation of small objects.

Sensory integration therapy: Techniques to help students regulate their sensory responses and improve their ability to process and respond to sensory information appropriately.

Visual-motor integration: Exercises to enhance hand-eye coordination, visual perception, and visual tracking skills, which are essential for tasks such as reading, writing, and completing puzzles.

Self-care skills training: Strategies to promote independence in activities of daily living, such as dressing, grooming, feeding, and toileting.

Social skills development: Activities to support social interaction, communication, and cooperation with peers, fostering positive relationships and social integration.

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."
"It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see."

Our OTs collaborate with teachers and other school staff to create an environment that supports the needs of special kids. This may involve modifying classroom setups, providing adaptive equipment or assistive technology, and implementing sensory-friendly strategies to optimize learning and participation.

Individual Sessions: Students receive individual OT sessions tailored to their specific goals and needs.

Group Sessions: Group OT sessions provide opportunities for peer interaction, collaboration, and learning through play-based activities.

In-Class Support: OTs provide support within the classroom, collaborating with teachers to implement strategies that facilitate students' participation and success in academic and social activities.

Progress is monitored regularly through ongoing assessment, observation, and feedback from teachers, parents, and the student. Adjustments to intervention plans are made as needed to ensure continued progress and success.
